Remember the post I wrote about 100 Ways to Stay Connected with Your Spouse?
Connection idea #64 falls under the category of “Use Your Words” and encourages you to create a love wall.
Knowing the power of words, I appreciated all of the motivational artwork that we received when we got married. Our bedroom had a huge blank wall that needed a little bit of attention, so speaking words of love over our bedroom and marriage was the route we chose.
should you create a love wall?
A love wall is a novel reminder of the foundation of your covenant.
I asked my husband what he thought of the love wall that we have in our bedroom. He said that for him “It helps to keep a constant reminder of how we feel about each other. Right here. It reminds me of where my focus should be.”
In the same way, our wall is an expression of the love that we intentionally maintain between each other. Subsequently, at the end of the day, we sleep underneath the promises that we’ve made to each other.
So, should you create a love wall in your home?
Proverbs 16:24 nudges us to remember that “Kind words are like honey…sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Proverbs 4:22 says that “For they (kind words) are life to those who find them, and health to the whole body.”
What I love the most about this idea is that it speaks words of love and encouragement to your spouse without you ever having to actually say a word. My husband knows that I love him and I make it a point to tell him regularly. Every morning he wakes and each night as he goes to bed, the love wall reinforces those promises.
In addition to honoring your covenant, a love wall is an entertaining way to express all of the mushy feelings that you have between the two of you! Could there be an easier way to put a smile on each other’s faces?
If you want to create an atmosphere of fun, love, and dedication within your home, creating a love wall is a perfectly unique idea to incorporate into your lives. Inspire your heart with art!
How to create your love wall
Black, red, white, gray are the colors of our bedroom; the love wall matches that general color scheme, with a little bit of brown in as a neutral/natural color. You can pick any color schemes that make you happy and exude joy!
Some of the ways to build your collection are to:
- Shop for your love wall. We increased our collection over time but, if you’re up for it, you can create it all in one day! Shopping in the home decor section of At Home, Target, TJ Maxx, Home Goods is always a good place to start. The pre-made ones on our wall came from House to Home, At Home, Target, and even Dollar Tree! Look for pieces that speak to you and your marriage.
- Build for your love wall. One of the easiest ways to build pieces for your love wall is to simply glue letters or words onto a piece of wood. In the case of this project for our love wall, I went for the simple initials on wood, mostly because that’s what I had on hand; I’d purchased the pieces a while back from Michaels. Create words that have meaning to your relationship. Make it as large or as small as you like.
- Create for your love wall. Also, another option for expressing your heart with art is to doodle it yourself! This particular project was made using a die-cutting machine to create a template and a projector to trace it onto the canvas.
