St. Patrick’s Day is not a holiday that we celebrate like we did when we were younger. Back in the day, we’d be decked out in green, pinching people who didn’t get with the program. Going out all night, drinking, pretending like we knew how to master the Irish accent.
Now that we’re older, St. Patrick’s Day has become a day that’s really just another day. We might get adventurous and enjoy a beer, but the way my tolerance is set up, that’s not even a priority lately…
I do love to seize the opportunity to make a fuss over hubby for every national holiday though! He doesn’t care for cards so I love being able to get a little creative. When I get around to St. Patrick’s Day, I think about all things Irish superstition: lucky charms, rainbows, leprechauns, and the elusive pot of gold. But most importantly, it’s another day to remind my hubby of how much I love an appreciate him; I get to remind myself how lucky I am to have him.
And let’s be real: I get to remind him how lucky he is to have me!
Read on for 3 quick and easy ideas for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day for couples.
st Patrick’s day for couples: 3 quick, easy ideas
So the trick to making your significant other feel lucky is by making a bigger deal out of the day than you might be expected to.
Let’s start with breakfast!
Start the day off with breakfast in bed. Fix your spouse (and yourself) your favorite breakfast. What is it that you like to eat? Bacon, eggs, toast, yogurt, and fruit? Even if it’s just cereal or a muffin, take a few extra streps to make this moment count.
You may want to get up a little earlier to have quiet time to talk together, enjoy your breakfast, pray together, or whatever it is that you want to do before you start your day.
If you don’t have time for a whole breakfast, fix them a cup of hot coffee. I don’t think I’m alone when I say that coffee is my love language! Not surprisingly, coffee mugs are how I speak it. Hubby? He could drink out of the same one that serves its purpose. Lucky for him, I get a kick out of making these to share sweet messages with him.
This super cute “I’m the lucky one” mug can be made for less than $2 and in under 15 minutes!
To make this really quick and easy mug, you’ll need:
- Dollar Tree (or another inexpensive) mug
- black and green markers (get porcelain markers on Prime if you want the design to be a little more permanent)
Have fun with it and try a couple of other phrases like:
- Lucky Charm
- “When I count my blessings, I count you twice -Irish Proverb”
- Prone to Shenanigans and Malarkey

A Lunch They Will Love
Do you pack a lunch for your little ones? For your spouse? And if the way that they receive love is through sweet words or by getting gifts, then this midday reminder will be right up their alley!
We generally see it as super cute when you pack a lunch for the kids and leave little notes of love and encouragement for them. It brightens your day to see how your words of support lift them up and boost their confidence. We do it because we want our children to know that there is someone cheering them on.
Unfortunately, a big mistake that some of us make is that we often forget that our significant other needs the same kind of love, support, and encouragement. Our spouse needs to know that they are appreciated and that we are on their team. Use this holiday to take a moment to tell them why you’re thankful for them:
Wondering what you could even say?
Ladies, it doesn’t have to be something grand. Does he make sure that your gas tank is full? Does he move as quietly as possible when he wakes up earlier than you? Does he cook or do the dishes when you’re absolutely too tired to do it yourself? Does he stay at a job he hates in order to provide financially? Remind him that you notice these things and you’re appreciative of him.
*ahem* Men…
What is it that she does that makes you feel lucky? Does she iron for you? Take the time to make meals? Give you a minute to settle in at home before she engages you in what’s going on? Especially if your wife does the latter, you tell her thank you. It’s really not all that easy for us to do!

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner for Couples
After a long day, I don’t want to cook. Let’s be real…I never want to cook. We have 3 crockpots in our home, but I’m terrified that they’re going to burn my house down, so I won’t use them if I’m too far away from home. Thanks This is Us.
On the other hand, hubby does love stew and soups. He’ll eat them year-round. The benefit to making a crockpot dish is that (1) I can set it and forget it until it’s done and (2) I can make enough to last for a few days. This St. Patrick’s Day meal is definitely aligning with those plans!
After a long day, remember to take what opportunity you can to come together again and debrief. Get ready to cuddle up and converse over a hot, hearty meal…
This incredible Beef and Guiness Stew by Chef John is what the doctor ordered as you wind down your day! Made with the main ingredients of beef, bacon, and beer, you’re set up to win. Head here for the full recipe to prepare a great St. Patrick’s Day dinner for couples. If you’re like us and trying to eat a little healthier, try making this recipe and substituting cauliflower mash for the mashed potatoes. There are 1-2 other ingredients that need to be substituted but you can certainly make that call. Sorry Keto, the beer is gonna have to stay…
Are you making this on the day of or just not crockpot-lazy like me? Don’t worry! The recipe was created to be made on the stove top. You’ll just need to remember to save about 3 hours to get it done; while it’s cooking, you can spend your time elsewhere around the house.
Who knows…after a full day of love and appreciation, you just might get lucky too!
