For some of our DIT {Do-It-Together} content, I shared hubby’s 35th birthday beer bash.
Since he really got into craft brewing, I immediately knew what the theme for his big party was going to be. I was very excited to be able to customize it and make it super personalized just for him. I was able to DIY a few of the major elements of the party, but the quickest and easiest thing to do was making the mugs that held the beer-themed cake pops my friend at Sparkling Sweets Boutique made for us.
Beer Mugs
This project that takes less than 5 minutes to complete and has quite an impact, making it an awesome addition to your event!
“How easy is it?”
Seriously, just 3 items required!
- glass mugs (I got mine from Dollar Tree)
- 2-3 bags of amber colored stones from Michaels
- cotton balls
I really wanted the mugs to look like they had beer + bubbles in them, so I was truly excited to find the right color array of the stones at Michaels! I purchased 3 bags to make sure that I had enough to complete my project and proceeded to divide them between the two mugs. After you get your items, there are just 2 steps to completion:
- Fill each mug 3/4 of the way with amber stones.
- Top with a handful of cotton balls, to mimic foam in the glass.
For this party, I simply had to add the cake pops to make it complete. Super easy to make and perfect to fit the theme! Try some out for centerpiece decorations or to adorn your sweets and/or guest table(s) at your own beer bash!
If you’re not doing beer, try darker stones to make root beer or cola mug centerpieces 🙂
Beer Chalkboard Signs
Supplies/Tools Needed:
- plywood from a local home improvement store
- sandpaper
- jig saw
- stain
- white craft paint
- wood burning pen {optional}
- chalkboard paint
- wood stain
These look much harder to make than they actually were. It took some time but if you can envision what a beer mug looks like, then you’re good to go!
- To make these, I had my local Home Depot cut boards into 3′ x 2′ pieces.
- Once I got home, I used a pencil to sketch on the designs I wanted {I made a mug and pilsner set.}
- I then used the jig saw to cut out the glass design. Cutting the handles on the mugs turned out to be a pain in my arm but I got it done! *please follow all safety precautions when using power tools*
- After cutting the shape, I sketched the lines on and used a wood burning pen to burn the details into the wood.
- I traced out where I wanted the menu/chalkboard to be and then, following the directions, painted on the chalkboard paint in the area that I wanted to use as the actual sign.
- I then stained the wood to give it more of a “beer” color.
- Finally, I used white paint to paint the “foam.”
These definitely took a bit of time to make but the impact they had on the party decor was well worth it!
