Hi, I’m Katherine!

Who is Katherine?
I’m a Titus 2 Christian. I’m a wife. I’m an aunt of 5. I’m a former foster mother struggling with infertility.
After 30 years of bad relationships and worse decisions, I’d given up on love and the possibility of marriage. I’d just decided that it wasn’t meant to be for me.
Then I met him.
The biggest turning point in my life was not meeting my husband. It was meeting him and realizing that I still had a lot of hurt, anger, mistrust, and baggage that I was carrying around. I knew that I wanted to marry him but that I wasn’t ready to be the woman he deserved. I wasn’t the woman that I deserved. I decided to go to counseling to try to work out my issues and insecurities. On the other side of all that I experienced…and survived…on my journey to marriage, this ministry was born.
Despite the stigma of mental health counseling within the Black community, I also discovered that it was critically effective in helping me to heal from my own traumas and self-destructive behaviors. Since being married, I have pursued my Graduate Certificate in Counseling for Church Leaders, which is part of the College of Biblical Studies and the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Freed-Hardeman University.

about yoked
In the years that we’ve been married, we’ve endured so many of the things that break most marriages up. Understanding and living in an agape love has kept us through depression, infertility, anxiety, job loss, distance, conflicting schedules, and unmet expectations. Making the decision to say yes wasn’t just about our feelings. We went into marriage with our eyes wide open and it’s continued to make all the difference in the health, strength, and happiness of our marriage.
My career path has taken me from chemist to safety manager to event planner, to DIY crafting and cookie artistry. Hubby’s path took him through corporate management to unemployment to school and into nonprofit management; we are a living testament that God’s will can find purpose in you, no matter what your past.
Our ultimate goal and desire is to be able to work together to help strengthen relationships and marriages. In addition to the operation of our agency, we are certified workshop facilitators for the Marriage Dynamics Institute, lead Grief Share classes for local congregations, and share our passion for marriage ministry on our Youtube channel.
Yoked is all about real stories and real conversations about dating and marriage. We are building covenant relationships through love and laughter!
