New Mexico was the second trip that my husband {then boyfriend} and I took together. It was to a specific location…Kokopelli’s Bed and Breakfast…but since we didn’t have the budget to stay at the hotel the entire time, we divided our time at different locations around New Mexico and even driving a little bit into Colorado.
We looked at what we could get into; trying to experience as much as we could in the area; this time he let my Type A travel personality lead the way! We visited Bisti Badlands, Four Corners and Aztec, NM, the Bandera Volcano, drove along a section of Route 66, and even wandered up into Colorado.
Even though it wasn’t our first trip together, we still learned a lot about each other and continued to travel with intention.
3 Things A Trip to New Mexico Taught Me About My Husband
- He’s trusting. The trip to New Mexico was totally my idea. I saw the Kokopelli Bed and Breakfast on one of those lists of hotels-you-have-to-stay-in-before-you-die sort of thing. He didn’t really know anything about it but when I said I’d like to go, he was all in. It was also quite hazardous getting to the actual hotel. You had to hike down the face of a cliff to get to it. He trusted the process and was certainly up for the adventure. A big plus for me, as I’m a person who likes to try new things.
- He’s spontaneous…and kind of an undercover stuntman. As we drove around the Farmington area, he randomly suggested that we go mountain climbing. Whaaat?! Well, why not? We already had to climb down to our room…why not climb up something else? His mom thought that I’d talked him into this part of our trip and had a hard time believing that it was his idea. Everyone always thought he was timid and boring…
- He craves adventure and what life has to offer. While in New Mexico, he wanted to go to the Grand Canyon. We were too far away from the specific location he wanted to visit, so we promised that we’d take a later trip out West. I learned that exciting life experiences are just as important to him as they are to me.
